A Great Wine at a Great Price: Delas St. Esprit Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge 2007

Delas St. Esprit Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge 2007

Delas St. Esprit Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge 2007

I don’t know why I don’t take the wine at World Market more seriously.  When I’m wandering around in there, I’ll often see a highly rated wine for a really good price, and usually just walk on by.  I guess I have it in my head that I can find much better stuff on my own at a wine retail store, or anyway, somewhere where you can get help from in-the-know wine store staffers.  But a few weeks ago, I was in my local World Market and spotted the Delas St. Esprit Côtes-du-Rhône, and decided to take the plunge.  I mean, I love, love, love Côtes-du-Rhône, and this one got 90 points from the man himself, Robert Parker, AND it was on sale for just under $10!  So even if I hated it, I’d only be out a few coins.

But I didn’t hate it!  Oh no, I loved it!  And I would buy it again. And again. This would be one to get a case of.  What’s great about this is, not only is it very good, and very inexpensive, but it’s widely available.  I am forever reading about great wine buys for $15 or less, or great wine buys for $10, or for $20, but then when I go out locally to find them, they aren’t available.  Very disappointing.  This wine drinks like a wine at least twice the price, it’s easy to find, and it’s easy on the wallet.  Get yourself some.

Wine notes

From wine.com:

Style:  Earthy & Spicy: Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Critical Acclaim:

“This great northern Rhone negociant, spearheaded by their brilliant oenologist and winemaker, Jacques Grange, has consistently made fabulous wines from the northern appellations, but only recently upgraded the quality of their southern Rhone selections. These are the finest southern Rhones they make, and their Cotes du Rhone St.-Esprit ranks alongside the offerings from Guigal and Chapoutier.”

From Snooth:

Winemaker’s Notes
90 points Robert Parker. The amazing 2007 Cotes du Rhone St.-Esprit (75% Syrah and 25% Grenache) reveals a northern Rhone orientation but it is loaded with spice and black fruits and displays a beautiful opulent texture as well as a gorgeous finish with impressive purity.

There ya go, drink up!
