I Heart California Sparkling Wine

Petit Cadeau Sparkling Wine

I recently developed a crush on an off-dry sparkling wine from California — Petit Cadeau Semi-Seco.

See, over the holidays I got out of my comfort zone and tried a couple of lightly sweet sparklers for a change (I usually do Brut when I do sparkling wine), and found I really liked them.  So when I tried this one from California over the weekend, I didn’t instantly put up my guard and think, “Oh, it’s not dry, I won’t like it;” instead, I was instantly smitten.  It’s surprising what can happen when you’re open to the possibilities.

(Full disclosure:  I poured this wine at a tasting, so it’s in the line-up of wines I represent as part of my side gig leading in-home wine tastings.  But I wouldn’t write about it here if I didn’t think it was worthy of the mention.)

Petit Cadeau Semi-Seco is a blend of French Colombard, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Muscat, Viognier, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks, secondary fermentation in the bottle. Aromas of green apple, pear and flowers with hints of orange and anise.  Fruity flavors, with a light sweetness. Good acidity and a pleasant medium weight on the palate with a long sweet finish. Enjoy this sparkling wine with Sushi, fruit based desserts, spicy Chinese food or light cheeses such as fresh mozzarella. Or all on its own, of course.  : )
